Nipple Jesus

The article talks about a man and his work. At the beginning, he worked in the bar. However,  his wife does not like his job. She wants him to do something meaningful. Towards this point and the conversation between this couple. It is obvious that the thoughts between men and women are different. To a large degree, women are often more mature than men. They often thinks about things that are more realistic and material. However, men are not willing to think about that, they do things that they enjoy and they like making some unachievable plan. In this article, Lisa does not like her husband's job, so he changed it to work in the gallery. In this gallery, he noticed a picture, he saw it for several times at different distance. And his attitude towards this picture is different as well. At first, he thought it was awful, however, after meeting the author, he began to understand this artwork, since he thinks the family of the author is happy and he likes them very much. From this point, I understand the importance of knowing the purpose of an artwork.

Technically, this article is easy to understand. But I have a question about understanding. Sometimes, not all the picture in public show the purpose of themselves. As a result, people cannot understand them in a right way. In this way, does it lose its initial meaning which is to reach an agreement  with the public?

Yoko Ono: A Reconsideration

This article talks about a women whose name is Yoko Ono. She is a artist with few fans because her experience is different about others, she may have some unique thoughts due to her history. She lost a lot in her whole life, however, she learns to accept the lost, then the lost will not intervene you any more. I like her attitude towards lost very much. I think it is a helpful and amazing guidance in one's life to teach us not to be too stubborn, or we will be unhappy and lose more. In author's opinion, she likes this woman, but sometimes she cannot accept her, because of some weird behavior of Yoko Ono. She also mentioned Lady Gaga as an example to show that people  willing to watch them is not equal to they loving those artists. In terms of me, I understand this kind of feeling. I think the reason is most of us do not have such bravery to live like them. As a result, we just like to watch them, but are not willing to support them. Just like the author, we cannot always catch the thought of them, they may surprise us, and make us confused.

Towards question, I do not understand, if people cannot accept Yoko Ono, then why she can still become famous?

There are some same experience between the first ten photos and the second ten photos. To be  more specific, when I found something interesting, I will take some photos, or when something impresses me, I will take photos to memorize them. I took these twenty photos because they are just around my daily life and they are all familiar to me and impress me. However, there are still many differences between them. For example, I will not consider what type it is when I took the first ten photos, but I must consider the style when I took the second ten photos. I must think about what styles these photos adapt and can make them more vivid. In my opinion, the second ten photos are more enjoyable for me. Because I think it is more meaningful, it can help me to think what style I use, and let me know how to use the specific style better. In addition, it practice my ability of creating, force me to find the beautiful things around me. This process teaches me a lot about taking photos, so I think it is more enjoyable. When coming to my favorite, I think it is the image from the view of a bird. Because when I look at the photo, it always reminds me of the computer game, so I think this idea is creative and amazing.
Towards questions, I think I cannot make the light of the photo perfect, so I want to improve this aspect.

Big Ideas and Artmaking

In this article, I learned that in the process of creation art, people must come up with a big idea first. When developing a big idea, it requires students to have adequate knowledge as well as patience to experiment in order to choose the best big idea for the art. Sometimes the big idea can be the same of theme, but it is not absolute since a big idea is more general than a theme. In addition, subject matter is not equal to big idea as well. For example Jennifer Bartlett's picture's subject matter is gardens, however, her big idea is the exploration of the use of rules and systems.

I find a problem in this article about the idea of Jennifer Bartlett. She said she would like to bend the rules, but I do not think so. Because she neither changed the method of creating a picture nor had new creation towards the content of the picture. She just mixed the style in different pictures, which I do not think it is the way to bend the rules.

Interpreting Connotations in Visual Culture

From this article, I learned a lot about how to get information and analyse the meaning of visual stuff by using denotations and connotations. To be more specific, denotations can tell us what is the product used for, what does it contain and the basic information like name, outlook of the product. In terms of connotations, it can explain the meaning of the product, including the meaning of its name and what the thing try to tell us. The author uses many examples to show how to use denotations and connotations. With his description, I find that when people want to use these two elements, they must be very careful about everything they can see, they cannot miss any details, or they will not analyse the product effectively.

I do not have any specific question about this article since the author illustrates everything in details and clear. However, I am really curious about the conclusions those people made which are mentioned in the article, are they really true or no body have confirmed them at all.

Blog 2 responses

Today I read three articles about different aspects of art. All of them helps me a lot in understanding the art. Here are the responses of the three articles.

THE HERESY OF ZONE DEFENSE
Basically, this article is talking about the limitation in the art by using the example of basketball. The author thinks that sometimes rules can weaken the perfect of art, despite its original purpose, which is to make the art more civilized and perfect. In terms of basketball, when it was firstly invented, it was popular, and the inventor has already made some rules to avoid conflicting and disagreements. However, after some time, some people think it is too violent. As a result they make some new rules and some standard for actions. And these actions make the basketball less fun, and many people laugh at it because its rules. These rules prevent players from getting fun from the game. Therefore, the author think that too limitations on the stuff may make it less amazing and less funny.
Despite these understanding about this article, I still have some puzzles towards it. For one thing, I do not understand why the author say "all rules go bad". Because I think, although, sometimes rules may make some amazing things boring, it is still very useful to keep the balance and order of the world. People cannot live efficiently without rules, and most of them are useful in daily life. For another thing, I do not understand why after Jackson said " It's okay to drip paint", it became a rule. And it is not allow not dripping the paint. I think it is weird and unfair.

Why Is This Man Smiling?

This article is about animation. It is difficult to do a realistic face in animator, since face stand for people's soul, and it is hard to describe or express a soul which is not simply quantifiable.
In order to achieve the goal, animators used the milk to do many experiments focused on how light diffuses. There are two basic ways to make animation, one is keyframe and the other is facial capture. To use these two methods efficiently, animators are supposed to very familiar with the structure of human's face in order to design each emotion realistic and vivid. They must focus on details which can even decide whether this project is successful or not.

About this article, I have some problems. First, how to use formulas to make a face. It is not mentioned in details in the article. However, I think it is necessary to mention the differences between the standard formulas and simple analytic expression. Another problem is how can the animator know about so many details on human's face and about each expression. How do they analyse these, use computers or draw the picture and calculate.

PRELUDE

After reading this article, I know that the enemy is the one who will hurt you or has already hurt you. In addition, the article also tells us things always go from left to right, for example, when we draw pictures, we will finish the left side, then continue to the right side; moreover, everytime we do some thing, we always begin from the bottom to the top; furthermore, when coming to big and small, there is never a limitation, big can be bigger, small can be smaller.
When reading this article, I think it is difficult to understand what the author is trying to express. I cannot understand the situation the author describes, so I cannot understand what the author means exactly.
