Final Project

For the final project, I want to record the process I prepare for going back to Changchun, my hometown in China. I get this idea since it is coming to summer vacation soon and I will go back to home soon. For preparation, I have a list of thinks to buy, as presents to my friends and my family. In addition, I am also going to write a wish list, when I am going back, there are a lot of things I want to do, I want to eat some traditional Chinese food, hot top, dumplings and other delicious food. And I will take the taxi! I can take the taxi wherever and it is really cheaper than here, I think it will be cool! In addition, I going to shopping with my mom and maybe I will cook for them on weekends. Actually, I plan to do many things during the summer vacation, maybe I will have a travel too. But I just be too excited when I think about this, so maybe I cannot organize these agenda well now. But whatever, I will follow my heart and enjoy my holiday!

In order to complete this final project, firstly, I collect many photos that I may use to present my preparation and my wish list. Some of the pictures are taken by me and some of them are from the Internet since I cannot access them now. To present the Ipad I buy for my cousin, I use the photoshop because I like the style which I learn from the class to separate the object from its background, and in my opinion, Apples's product are really adaptable to this style, make it simple but delicate. When I make the procedure of going back to home, I used to want to use a taking off airplane and a dropping off airplane to present, but when I apply it, I just find that it will take a long time and it cannot show how far away from here to my home, which means it cannot tell my audience how long is this trip, it is too abstract. Therefore, instead of the action of airplane, I use a tellurian to present this distance. Since the tellurian can rotate and present a line from Columbus to Shanghai, these characters make this video more vivid and interesting, people can easily feel the distance. As for the text I type on the video, I just add some animations on them, shining and beautiful, they can also reflect my mood, I like these things very much and I cannot wait to experience them. Shining means desire, so I add some shining to show how eager I am. For the travel part, I use the photoshop again to make a map between two cities, it seems normal since I do not have the ability to make it more attractive, and sorry for that. I just choose two pictures to present the cities respectively. As for the music on the background, I use a peaceful one because I think when talking about going back home, I heart is sweet, not very excited, just feel happy, so I use a piece of warm music and I hope my audience can feel my slight happy and sweet when they are listening to the music. I hope they can like it.

After I finish my project, I am really happy and satisfy with that. Although it is a little simple and not abundant enough, I use all my heart to to this and everything in it is my wish and I choose them after serious consideration, so at least my attitude is good~In addition, compared to my previous project, this final project is well developed and improved. However, it still have some problems. Firstly, the music, its length is not suitable to the video, when the video finishes, the music just suddenly stops which makes me unhappy and makes the video not perfect. Secondly, for the travel part, I used to consider to make the line on the map move from Changchun, my hometown to Beijing, it can be much more interesting, but it is really complicated and I failed. It is a pity I think, and I will practice more to make it possible next time. Except these two shortcomings, I really enjoy my artwork and I hope that others will enjoy it too.

Failure Paper

In this semester, my biggest failure is Micro Project 2. Here are some reasons. For one thing, I am not satisfied with the pictures I took, I only took the pictures which could reflect the position, however, I can make it more vivid by taking some more pictures about my facial expression in order to show my mood through the process of finding the classroom, which can make my statement more convinced. For another thing, I did not do well in making the layout. Since it was the first time I use photoshop, I could not use it very well to achieve the goal. To be more specific, I did not get rid of traditional map, it is still obvious which means I am not very creative. From this failure, I learn many things. Firstly, in some situations, pictures are good ways to make explanations easier and show people's mood directly. Then I know that sometimes it is hard to get some traditional idea out of our brains, when we do something, we may remind of traditional way immediately. However, sometimes we should leave tradition, and be creative, only in this way, we can grow and develop.
As for the most successful project I made, I think it is Micro Project 5 because I think in this project, I really use many skills  on it. I used iMovie, Garage, I took pictures, videos and considered the objects carefully. In my opinion, I did it well and it satisfied all the requirements, the objects I presented really simplify our life and I also added Chinese culture in it, which I really like. The development of Chinese word can directly reflect the importance of siplification, so I think it is very suitable. From this success, I learn that everything around our life is meaningful and present something. We need to use our heart to experience our life and we will gain much knowledge and feelings.
If I can redo one project, I want to redo Micro Project 4 because I did not do very well for this project. Since I cannot take the video during my work time, I took the videos in a hurry and the quality of those videos were not very good. In addition, some videos were not continuous and some were missing. Moreover, the width of videos are not very suitable either. So I want to redo it in a way thai is not hurry and I can make it better. I will use a digital camera to take the videos and I will ask managers for permission to take the videos and in this way, I can make the procedure continuous and record the process of my work step by step.

For this project, my action word is simplify and the object I chose is my hands. Because I think from ancient to current, people use their hands and intelligence to create wealth and build their happy life. Hands are magic, especially simplify our life. We use hands to control the machine, write down the rules and express ourselves which can make our life easily and efficiently. In this project, I present some actions that using my hands to simplify my life, my hands can use the calculator, write the formula and Chinese word, which are essential in our life, and also bring convenience to our life. In addition, I just want to claim that people use brain to invent the machine and rules to make life simple, but they need to use hands to do the actions and control the machines. Micro Project 4

For this project, I want to choose Union Market where I work to describe. I work in Union  Market since last semester. The main activity I do there is preparing food for the salad bar. I often get the food in the cooler, cut them, take them in the container and warp them for waiting to sell. I work in the back of the Union Market, where usually quite noisy since we need to wash the dishes, use machine to cut the food, talk and wash our hand. All of these make much noise. When I close my eyes, I can also hear the sound of the machine, the running water and the sound of knife, then I can make sure that I am in the back of the house.

After I finish this project and watch it, I feel good. I think that I transform the initial sound well. I tried to make the sound more active and regular since I think when I work at Union Market, I am energetic and I love this job, in addition, this job is in order, I should do everything step by step, so I tried to make the sound regular and active. In the process of creating this video, I made overt decisions about the piece. I want to record every procesure of  my work. Firstly, I need to slide my buckID, then I can have something to drink during my work, I use the machine, I get the food from cooler, I cut food and so on. They are normal but unique to me. I am happy that I hace this experience to make this video and create the sound, I record everything from one of my main activities in college, and I made the sound which can really reflect my emotion and which also really adapt to the characteristics of my job. However, the screen of the video is too narrow and during the process of making the video, my hand always block the camera and make the picture not perfect. In addition, since I cannot use my phone during my work actually, so I make the video with nervous, the process is not really complete and I do not like that.

This story talks about the talk between Robert, a blind man and Carven. Robert is a friend of Carven's wife. They worked together a few years ago. Since then, they became friends and sent tapes to each other to talk about everything around their lives. Robert had a wife, but she died from cancer. I think this woman was really loved with Robert, so she could undergo that her husband cannot see her, and cannot know her mood from her face and eyes. When she was happy, her husband cannot know how happy she was, when she was sad, her husband had no idea since he cannot catch her sad from her eyes and face. Therefore, she must be independent and learn to be brave and strong. It is difficult for this couple to experience these things so they must be love with each other deeply. So when the wife died, Robert must be really sad. Carven does not like the blind man at first, he has never got along with such a blind man before, so he has no idea how to talk with Robert and he cannot understand Robert's life. However, such a man teaches Carven a lesson about how to feel the world. It is not enough to experience the world through eyes, heart is extremely important. Heart can deep your feelings and make the world more transparent. Using the heart to look at the world can make the world more beautiful. And I agree with that. Sometimes eyes cannot distinguish what is true and what is wrong, but if you use heart to feel it, your heart can tell you which one should follow.

The essay firstly provides several examples to explain why we should to learn how to think or in the other words: what to think about like two guys who are religious and atheist respectively. The same experience can have two total different views by two different belief templates. So this part teaches us how to think is really supposed to mean. To the next to be just a little less arrogant when to have just a little critical awareness about oneself and my certainties. Sometimes, we rarely think about this sort of natural, basic self-centered, because it is so socially repulsive. We should adjust our natural default setting way described being “well-adjusted”. Furthermore, when we graduate we have to keep from going through comfortable, prosperous, respectable adult life dead when you feel bored about daily routine life as an average adult life and to believe liberal arts cliché. So although it seems hard to do this, to alive and to stay conscious in the adult world day in and day out , we should believe that our education really is the job of a lifetime.

I choose it because I cannot live without it even for one day. It plays an essential role in my daily life for study, entertainment and communication. It really brings convenience to my life. I can search information, listen to music and chat with friends and family through it. It is such an amazing thing that gives me much happiness.

Every time I look at it, I can know how much time I have before I have a class or I am not available, and I can organize my to-do -list on my schedule correctly and quickly. Based on the final image, I want to show viewers several things. Firstly, my mac is the most important stuff in my daily life, it can almost take place everything I display except hand cream. I can know all the information, read book and organize my schedule through it, it takes a big part of my life. Secondly, I want to display is that life is colorful, entertainment, communication, knowledge and body are equally important to us. They all take a certain proportions in my life within reasonable schedule. However, this image cannot tell viewers that in my opinion, what their relationships each other and how they fill my life. During processing this project, I try to put these objects in their right position, computer is at the central of this image since it is the most important on in my life, in addition, both iphone and book can provide information to me to enrich my knowledge and make me relax, so I put them in the same line. Watch and hand cream are the necessity in my life, however I can also live without them without any convenient, so I put them together. Also watch and iphone are both electronic, so they are on the same side. I also put the background to this image to show that all of these things except watch are in my bag everyday, but watch is on my hand. I just want to show their usual position in my daily life. However, this image cannot show how I use them daily and how often do I use them. In other words, this image cannot show the exact importance of these objects.

Art Which Can't Be Art

This article talks about the change of art. When talking about art in the past, it must be related to objects which was amazing and creative. They must have their own unique properties in order to be an art object. However, today, the concept of art has already changed. Art can be created in our daily life. After thinking deeply about things happening around you, then they can probably become a artwork. It is just similar as brushing teeth. You can brush teeth without any consideration or you can observe your facial expression when brushing teeth, you can get different experience in these two different ways. Art becomes more closer to our life, which let someone suspect whether art is becoming nonart. In my opinion, it is false. Since art do not have a specific and absolute concept. Everything can become an art in different directions and standards.

There is one question I have, who defined the art firstly and what was he based on? Is this definition too subjective?

The Desert

This article talks about what is the difference between art and reality. Actually, art is not mysterious, it is just normal things which are captured by someone, then he uses his perspective to understand it and describe it in his own way which is more abstract, then an art work is done. Art comes from daily life, however, it is more than daily life. Artists cannot just take the public to see the tangible things, they must modify the pictures with technology skills or professional skills to make the picture more creative and unique. After modifying, an artwork is born.


From this article, I have a question. Is it true that almost every artist experienced a phase that they do not really know what is art?

George Saunders Has Written the Best
Book You’ll Read This Year 

This article introduces a writer named George Saunders. He has already written five books until now. At the beginning of the article, there is a story about trick accident, which let Saunders feel the coming death. Each second during that period is so long that he could not say anything but no. However, he knew that he was going to die. When he realized that it was not true, he felt that the world is so beautiful. This kind of feeling I can understand. Once you come over something which is really hard to you, you may feel relaxed and happy. You may feel the sky is bluer and, the grass is greener and everything is so cute and beautiful. Before this kind of experience, Saunders often write the books which is funny but also black. It can reflect present-America, however many people think they are too violent. After this experience, he is interested in writing death. He thinks about this all the time because he does not like a sudden news. In addition, he does not believe humanist verities can be useful all the time. It cannot explain everything in the universe since the future is unpredictable.

This article is quite clear for me to read. I just want to know when he feels that death is coming, does he remain of somebody?

Wexner  Christian Marclay:    The Clock

I have visited Wexner Center last week. There were many shows displaying in it. Among these shows, The Clock is my favorite. It presents many stories within a certain period of time. When watching this show, I felt it was really amazing. The world we live on is so big that at each point of time, different people could do different things. Someone is sleeping, someone is watching TV and others are typing or doing something else. We live on the same world, but we probably experience different things at the same time, but whatever we do, it proves that we are alive and time continues going. The most interesting thing I found in The Clock was that each situation presented on the screen connected very fluently, which can also show that even if different people have different lives in the same time, they must have some connections, this is amazing and interesting. We are still related to someone we do not know. We may experience the same emotion and we may have the same feeling, which makes us not feel lonely. All in all, I like this show very much!

Janet Cardiff, George Bures Miller and the Power of Sound

This article is talking about the sound. Cardiff and Miller are couples who are artists and like recording sound. In their belief, sound is powerful. It can be more directly with memory and to dream. They record the sound during most of their time. When they talking, they record what they said; when they travelling, they record what they want to say and they even use the sound to create artwork. They think that sound can be encountered rather than heard or seen since only on the balance point, the sound will be wonderful. This article really attracted me that I also want to record the sound in my life tomorrow. Since I think it is meaningful and interesting. I can hear what I am saying and in the future, they can remind me of what is my mood on that time and what happened on that time, which is valuable to storage.

However, I really not sure about how can I control the sound I record? How to find the moment to encounter the sound. Is there any skills?

 Micro Project 2

When I first came to this Art Education class, I took the shuttle from University Village to Fisher Union. It took me about ten minutes to get there. Then I noticed that on my map, Ohio Stadium is on the right side of Fisher Union. So I turned right and walked along, after half minute, I saw Ohio Stadium since it is so tall and easy to catch. I just walked towards it, meanwhile, I kept looking at my watch, because I did not want to be late for my first class. As I got closer to it, I noticed that, there are so many gates on Ohio Stadium that I could not figure out which one I should enter. The map did not tell me, either. As a result, I was nervous about that because it is so big, I was afraid that I had to walk around it to find the right gate! Fortunately, when I walked around it for just a quarter, I found the gate on which it said: For class Art Education 2520, enter here. I remembered it was 11 o’clock and I would not be late, I was very happy. In my opinion, finding out the location of my classroom is different from finding it on the universal map. Specifically, the map is not detailed enough for me to find the location exactly. For example, it did not tell me the exact distance between the two buildings, so I cannot be sure how much time I will spend. Secondly, the building on the map is not vivid enough for me to figure it out immediately, as result I have to find the sign of the building to make sure it is the building that I am looking for.

Here is the experience about my first time to come here.

Actually, this project is interesting and meaningful since I can really learn something during the process. To be more specific, I learn something useful about photoshop. I never use it before, and I just know that it is a useful tool to modify pictures. However, I do not know it is a little complex. I need to add many layers to describe different processes. For example, I put the map that search from google on the first layer, and then put the pictures I took on the next layers which can make the whole picture looks more beautiful and clear. Besides learning from photoshop，i also learn to using picture to document my life. It is an amazing process, which makes my memory more vivid and impressing. I love this feeling. When I took the picture to note my way to the classroom, I just feel all the things are beautiful, especially the gate of the Ohio Stadium. When I took the picture for it, I just clearly remember what happened the day I first here. I found the gate finally and happily. So as for this project, I really use my heart to finish it and I love this activity.

The article talks about a man and his work. At the beginning, he worked in the bar. However,  his wife does not like his job. She wants him to do something meaningful. Towards this point and the conversation between this couple. It is obvious that the thoughts between men and women are different. To a large degree, women are often more mature than men. They often thinks about things that are more realistic and material. However, men are not willing to think about that, they do things that they enjoy and they like making some unachievable plan. In this article, Lisa does not like her husband's job, so he changed it to work in the gallery. In this gallery, he noticed a picture, he saw it for several times at different distance. And his attitude towards this picture is different as well. At first, he thought it was awful, however, after meeting the author, he began to understand this artwork, since he thinks the family of the author is happy and he likes them very much. From this point, I understand the importance of knowing the purpose of an artwork.

Technically, this article is easy to understand. But I have a question about understanding. Sometimes, not all the picture in public show the purpose of themselves. As a result, people cannot understand them in a right way. In this way, does it lose its initial meaning which is to reach an agreement  with the public?

Yoko Ono: A Reconsideration 

This article talks about a women whose name is Yoko Ono. She is a artist with few fans because her experience is different about others, she may have some unique thoughts due to her history. She lost a lot in her whole life, however, she learns to accept the lost, then the lost will not intervene you any more. I like her attitude towards lost very much. I think it is a helpful and amazing guidance in one's life to teach us not to be too stubborn, or we will be unhappy and lose more. In author's opinion, she likes this woman, but sometimes she cannot accept her, because of some weird behavior of Yoko Ono. She also mentioned Lady Gaga as an example to show that people  willing to watch them is not equal to they loving those artists. In terms of me, I understand this kind of feeling. I think the reason is most of us do not have such bravery to live like them. As a result, we just like to watch them, but are not willing to support them. Just like the author, we cannot always catch the thought of them, they may surprise us, and make us confused. 

Towards question, I do not understand, if people cannot accept Yoko Ono, then why she can still become famous?

My name on campus

There are some same experience between the first ten photos and the second ten photos. To be  more specific, when I found something interesting, I will take some photos, or when something impresses me, I will take photos to memorize them. I took these twenty photos because they are just around my daily life and they are all familiar to me and impress me. However, there are still many differences between them. For example, I will not consider what type it is when I took the first ten photos, but I must consider the style when I took the second ten photos. I must think about what styles these photos adapt and can make them more vivid. In my opinion, the second ten photos are more enjoyable for me. Because I think it is more meaningful, it can help me to think what style I use, and let me know how to use the specific style better. In addition, it practice my ability of creating, force me to find the beautiful things around me. This process teaches me a lot about taking photos, so I think it is more enjoyable. When coming to my favorite, I think it is the image from the view of a bird. Because when I look at the photo, it always reminds me of the computer game, so I think this idea is creative and amazing.

Towards questions, I think I cannot make the light of the photo perfect, so I want to improve this aspect.
